Asserts copyright in a work: © 2026 Example Corp. The symbol, year of first publication, and owner’s name form the classic notice. Since the Berne Convention the notice is optional in most countries — protection is automatic — but it still deters copying and defeats innocent-infringement defences. Sound recordings use ℗ instead.
