Astronomical symbols to copy and paste

The planet symbols are among the oldest characters in Unicode by pedigree: medieval shorthand for the classical planets, each doubling as an alchemical metal — gold for the Sun, silver for the Moon, iron for Mars, quicksilver for Mercury, lead for Saturn.

Modern astronomy journals spell planet names out, but the symbols live on in astrophysics notation (M☉ for solar mass), ephemerides, almanacs and the entire astrological ecosystem. This collection covers the Sun, the Moon, all nine traditional planets and the comet.

Two rendering caveats apply. The signs ♀, ♂ and ☄ often surface as color emoji on mobile platforms — append U+FE0E, the text variation selector, to force plain-glyph presentation — and the outer-planet symbols are missing from many webfonts, so test before shipping.
