Em dash
Marks an abrupt break in thought or sets off a parenthetical clause—like this. American style sets it closed, with no surrounding spaces; British style often prefers a spaced en dash instead. It is longer than both the en dash (–) and the hyphen (-), its two most common lookalikes.
